Prospect Plains, Monroe, N.J.

Hopefully, a 60+ year old fellow (now 70+) whose family settled at Prospect Plains in 1926 can offer insight to the challenge of urbanization; promoting Peace and Good Order (Chapter 76 Monroe Ordinances)

The current Wawa shopping center has now gone beyond neighborhood convenience commerce, becoming, essentially, a 24 hour interstate truck stop.

Traffic safety is being ignored as well as infringement of “peace and good order.” Note: I first published this blog in 2011! Most issues remain unaddressed.

Update: July 27, 2015 =SOME= Enforcement of truck parking at WAWA. Two mornings in a row I’ve seen what looks like tickets issued for parking on Applegarth. Twice in the last few weeks I’ve seen patrol cars drive by parked trucks on Prospect Plains road. Patrols also ignore long term, occasionally overnight, parking at the Park and Ride. Trucks idling all night in Park and Ride and Bulk’s parking area.

Update: June 26, 2015 =STILL= No Enforcement of truck parking at WAWA.

UPDATE: TEN YEAR ANIVERSARY SEEKING RELIEF 2011 – 2021 This is trying to cross Applegarth Rd.,  August, 2021, while trucker eats his lunch parked in merging lanes, nobody’s upset but me. Yes, I still vote with the Democratic Party. (This truck is parked in front of Monroe GOP Headquarters) …Come’on man! The law is no parking! Give me a break.

ON THE BRIGHTSIDE, September 2022, (11 years now) a lot of my issues have been addressed, out of common sense, changing times and new personnel…

==Bulk Express has relocated, the new occupant keeps parking to the legal under 20 trucks. Last count Bulk Express had 86 vehicles parked, and no one of authority would take action.

==Truck parking is banned AND the ban ENFORCED at the Applegarth Park and Ride (it’s really Prospect Plains, not Applegarth which is down the road a couple miles) No more trucks parking for WaWa tearing up the pavement as they made tight u turns. Bulk Express was actually dropping trailers in the park and ride!

But, the gas leaf blowers were out at midnight the other day, patrol came with a no-no, and left, leaf blowers went back to making noise; there still are the BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS from the non-conforming landscaping at the stores; AND, THE 24 HOUR TRACTOR TRAILER PARKING ON APPLEGARTH RD continues with impunity and now again, zero enforcement!

This is the No Parking sign that has needed replacement for 10 years.  Very hard to argue with a driver of a tractor trailer truck parked, running, at 1 AM, 50 feet from our bedroom, when the sign says nothing!

If it’s not headlights glaring through our windows, or it’s not leaf blowers buzzing 75 feet from our bedroom at midnight, we always have tractor trailers parked, running, beeping, spewing exhaust… in a town that prides itself on peace and good order. Wow. The suggested remedy: “so sue us!”

2015-No Enforcement of “NO PARKING.”

Solutions:

  • Enforce noise ordinance.
  • Limit the shopping center hours.
  • Restrict trucks from entering, parking and idling.
  • Provide a buffer to headlights to adjacent residential properties.
  • Enforce window signage lighting.
  • Reduce late night lighting.
  • Re-line street to eliminate shoulder parking space
  • Improve no stopping standing signage
